Has anyone got a corset from What Katie Did? Are they good? I've been looking at the ones on Eternal Spirits too but they are much more expensive.

Thanks!

Generally whenever WhatKatieDid is mentioned, there follows posts full of praise and gushing. Although ive never heard anyone mention the corsets im sure they'd be up to the same standard as the rest of the products (a very high standard indeed).

Best ask Kittie, she's a fountain of all knowledge, especially when it comes to corsets. Or you could pm Missy Malone and ask her about them. She modelled for WhatKatieDid and could probably tell you what the corsets are like.

Hope this helps.

Busty

I'd say that you tend to get what you pay for in general.

I have always liked WKD and know Katie to have very high standards of manufacturing etc so without actually having worn a WKD corset, i'd still be confident to recommend them.

Eternal Spirits are indeed pricey but that reflects the expensive silks and unique designs involved - ES is a 'high fashion' label for lingerie and corsetry and that is reflected in the price too - they are an exclusive brand and only supply to specific stores across the world etc.

Essentially, both ES and WKD are great in the respective markets etc. different product, different market.

If you are looking for a first time corset to go partying in, i'm sure you will be delighted with WKD - why not call Katie herself and ask about the product?

Default Corset shopping in London

I've been recommemded Fairy Gothmother in Camden maket is an ideal first stop when lookign for corsets. As i undersstand it, Fairy Gothmother is not a label or brand but stocks a variety of different makes so you can get a good idea of hat's out there.

Default Corsets

Hi, Katie here!

I second Kittie in saying you get what you pay for when buying corsets although if you're at at the 'budget' (and you'll probably know why I've put that in inverted commas) end of the market you should come out with a good basic corset for around £100. I've worked in the fetish industry for over a decade now and over the years have stocked Axfords, Vollers and Snobz, all of whom offer good corsets starting at around £100. Go for a well known name and you should be okay. Go for What Katie Did and you can send anything back for a refund so there's very little risk!

If you have the cash to splash then Eternal Spirits are great for a fancier corset - as is Miss Katie.

Camden is a good hunting ground - as well as Fairy Goth Mother there is The Arc (200C Chalk Farm Road just before the Stables Market bit) who we stock, and there's also Pink Fluffy under the arches who have a good reputation.

We'll be at the Skin Two Expo at the beginning of October and if you're after a corset it will be well worth going. Dark Garden from San Francisco will be showing - they make beautiful corsets, as will Velda Lauder. Puimond (LA) has exhibited the last couple of years but I'm not sure if he's there this year.

Hi everyone,

I have a question for Leila (or any of you). I'm about to try to make a corset. I've a feeling it'll turn out to be a mess, but I'm really looking forward to trying

But I'm trying to get a hold of some hook and eye trimming in red. You know that trimming that already has hooks and eyes sewn into it so I could just sew this to the edge of the fabric on the front/back of the corset to open and close it.

I can buy it easily in fabric shops (I live in Dublin, Ireland), but only in black or white. Do you know of anywhere online or in Dublin where I can buy it in different colours?

Thanks,
Ruby

My instinct is to scream "NOOO! NOT hook'n'eye tape! It makes it look like a "wanna-be" pansey-ass plastic rigelene boning job!"

The busk fastening is integral to the corset, it has been the preferred fastening since shortly after it was patented in 1844, and for good reason. It combines a flat, secure fastening with the all-important centre-front support.

BUT i understand it is your corset and entirely your choice.

My first port of call for fancy & unusual trims would be somewhere like Nova Trims in Leicester, or dancewear supply places. Be aware, however, that the larger the selection, the more likely the stockist is to be trade only, or at least have a minimum spend (usually £30 or £40).

Run a search on the net, or try eBay. Even if the seller has none in stock, they may be able to get some for you.

IF you do decide to go down the busk route (don;t beput off by any apparent difficulty- is is easier to insert than tape), again look on the net, or try Devines, who do severl types, widths and also spoon busks.

Best of luck! I would be interested in seeing photos. Feel free to PM me if you have any sewing queries.

Default Busks

http://www.sewing.co.uk/genitem.htm do busks which you don't have to buy in quantity. They also do metal spiral boning which is a hundred times better than plastic - if you're going to do something you may as well do it properly!
