Default Finger Curls / Marcel Wave

Thought this is a good place to ask?

Does anyone know where I can get some finger curls done?
I want to wave my bob twenties style. Apparently it's something they learn in beauty school but haven't had much luck finding anyone so far!

I'm based in Bristol but interested to know about somewhere in London too.

Default Finger curling

They won't teach it as it's not "In".

However if you've done theatrical hair and make up and put the graft in .

Do it yourself girl.

Honestly it's dead simple and now not living in the 20's you have products. yay clap clap clap.

wet your hair and add a setting product to it.
make a side parting and choose which side to curl.
take a small segment of hair.
hopefully yours is long enough to wrap round your fingers or you'll have difficulty. . the name would suggets.

now pretend your doing the brownie pledge and weave the hair in between.
bobby pin the strands in place wih a little give for bounce.

yayyy clap clap again we have hair dryers so you don't have to wait.

blast that curled area closely with cool air.

style the rest of your hair

quick bit of heat to the curl

pull out the bobby and

ta da ! a perfect 20's curl.

That'll be £19.95 . it's ok i accept pay pal.

tee he.

Try out this site for DIY instructions

I tried some fingerwaves around my face for a 20s inspired style and they didn't look too shabby.

Believe it or not I trained as a hairdresser, many years ago though, I had about 5 regulars that had finger waves and I became very good at doing them but alas I left that job to become a rock n roll superstar and the last time I tried the waves was a few years ago on Parma Violet and it turned out a bit Salvador Dahli. Though I think I may be making my come back with Cherry Bomb Rock if she's in for a penny!

Ooh- thanks for replies. I'd seen the Nocturn instructions and was a bit daunted, but maybe one Sunday I'll stay in and play hair!

Default Waves

I did a feature on waves a few months back:

http://www.whatkatiedid.com/src/fingerwave.php

Unfortunately it's just as daunting as Nocturnes.

I picked up a '40s hairstyling book a couple of weeks ago and it also talks about waves, and how difficult they are. Apparently, in the old days, you used to be able to get a waved perm which is how everyone used to do it (doh! I guess this was the Marcel Wave!) But no one does it these days.

One thing you must do is use old fashioned granny setting lotion which I've just started using for pin curls. I figured extra hold mousse would be better (for some reason - modern technology probably). Setting lotion sets your hair with shine and without the crunch you'd expect. Granny sure had some tricks up her sleeve.
