Getting into the performance "zone" . . . .
I thought it might be an idea to start a thread on how performers get themselves into the "zone" for performing live.
Especially when it involves stripping.
Most people would say performing or talking in front of a group of people or audience is one of THE most terrifying things in life.
How do you overcome it?
Any tips?
What works for you?
I know nothing beats good old experience of doing it many many times, and you also obviously need to be confident in yourself and your abilities - or at least deluded to some extent!
But how do you overcome nerves?
Do you have any preparation routines that help?
When I do stand-up I constantly read over my notes almost until the very second my name is announced. And I do mouth stretches and physical stretches. I always take a drink onstage too, as there's nowt worse than getting a dry mouth when you need to do a lot of talking.
I've been onstage in various levels of undress and I always see it as a laugh, always have a big smile, and I don't know about other people, but I find you often become "larger than life" when you're really in the "zone" and having a good time onstage. . . .

Into the zone
Well, for me, it's a number of different things. I use the time that I put on my make-up to meditate as well as I go and try to watch the other acts to see how responsive the audience is. Then, just before I go on, I just take a deeeeeep breath and it all just washes over me. Very Zen.

personaly i sit calmly and do my make-up have a little sing and remeber to step out the dressing room on the right foot.
bloody performers
i'm not naming names but . . . .
one guy i know wears the same underpants for the entirity of the show be it a matinee or a six month run
a friend releases tension by gettings it out of his system
( literally )
Some folk have to do the same thing at the same time everynight.
one northern actor has had the same cup the last five years.
And this bald headed guy repeats the word MA several times.

I personally go through a mental checklist of props I've probably forgotten to set.
Then I remind myself that if I forget what I'm supposed to be doing, saying and it all goes really badly wrong - It will probably be just as funny to watch.
This may be different if you are taking your clothing off.

I like to get to the venue super early. It allows me to get ready slowly, which makes for a good show. (That being said, it's sometimes fun to throw some things in a bag and run to a venue for a last minute gig for some adrenaline!)
I don't get nervous, so I am not sure what to say about that.
