Default Burlesque Books

Hi there,
I just joined these forums, im not a performer myself but have worked with quite a few now. I'm very interested in burlesque and was wondering if anyone can recommend any good books on the subject? Preferably informative but with nice big shiny gorgeous photos for inspiration.

I'm planning to buy Ditas new book, i keep drooling over it in waterstones and i think they'll chuck me out if i dont buy it soon. Ive done a few searches online for books aswell but because you cant flick through them you never know whats worth buying. Does anyone own any good titles that they can recommend?

Thanks
xCharlotte

There's far far too many threads on here for anyone to trawl through them looking for similar things. . .

No worries.

Default mmmmm books

try looking on ebay if your after something special.
I loved the new bump and grind ( but hay i'm a little dyslexic) horrible prettiness is a fantastic book but it can get a little heavy.

I prefer biogs and scripts. try looking in charity shops and second hand book shops if you really want to get into the history of burlyq then researching showgirls like
mae west arrested at fifteen for staging the play sex very interesting woman incredibly funny and sexy.

or Josephine Barker first black american dancer to make it big at the moulin rouge but was shunned by americans when she returned home.
Did so much for racial movements and would not perform in a theatre unless the crowd was mixed race.

Burlesque in it's base form has been about since grecian times.
try reading the play lysistrata it's about women withholding sex from there war monger men.

And the word Burlesque is derived from the word Burla which is Italian for mockery.

Anyway hope iv given you some inspiration.

Thanks so much, thats really useful!
Im a really visual person so I think I might check out the new bump & grind, i like informative books but sometimes I just wanna look at the pretty pictures lol!
I'm always in charity shops so ill have to start looking through the books again (I ran out of room on my bookshelf and on my floor so I had to cut down on my obsessive book buying!)
Thanks again for the advice!
xCharlotte
