Ch5 Burlesque Girls

anyone been watching this? on at sometime around midnight mondays. Im finding it interesting to see the take on it across the pond. I love the intensity of the dance and the skill that they have but feel it has more of a showgirl edge rather that classic vintage burlesque. And although I can see why they would call Dita a stripper due to the more seductive nature of her acts, I don't toatally agree with it as they are both different takes under the title of burlesque. Ive gotta admit though the costumes are totally stunning, I've gotta send my costume makers some stills from this its left me feeling rather inspired outfit wise!

I was told it was basically a bunch of strippers in lacey garments.?

As for Dita.id say she is a stripper.a good one, but still a stripper. I have no problem being referred to as a stripper, even if it is a little surreal. It aint what you do, its how you do it!

Sort of, they are sparkley fringey/tassely garments, and you cant beat a bit of sparkle!

More nipple than I would expect for burlesque too, and some slight fetishy/girl on girl stuff at one point which I had to quickly explain to my mum was not what I do!

i'm not sure if i would call what they do burlesque-they are more showgirly stipper types than anything else. I cant belive what they were bitching about dita using their club!

I know! I dont think that Ch5 is portraying it right, going for the usual ch5 filming ooohh nipples oooh scandel ooooh buttocks and totally missing the point. I would like to see a full length clip of one of the girls performances. I feel that the ginger one Jade has got the burlesque feel down more than the other girls but i am so jealous of their dancing skills (im seriously hoping some of it is sped up, i can not twirl that fast on my feet)

Shall see what tonight brings anyway

ive never seen a single nipple ! - they always have those sparkly flesh bra thingies on, non ?

i have been known to doze off during a telly programme though . . .

i have also been watching this programme and they are basically professionaly trained dancers wanting to do something diffrent!
One of the owners of these clubs this programme is based on looks like a dirty old porn star that puts pressure on these girls to work their butts off. yes the costumes where fantastic i agree but they will have some one who is gettin paid a truck load of spondoolies to produce it.
i didnt think it was fair of them on tonights programme to bring in new girls and ot let them preform! my heart went out to them.
as for them slagging dita off, as i said before they are professinal dancers not like girls on here who spend hours preparing a costume and weeks preparing an act, and then hours putting in rollers setting the hair and adding beauty spots etc and every one here having individuality thats burlesque being utterly seductive and sexy.
as you may tell i didnt like this show!

I have to say, i sat through it - only just. It was spectacularly dull.

I also failed to notice any burlesque acts. Strippers with shiny bras and knickers, yes but actual costume/prop/irony and a sense of humour? No. Not one hint of it.

In fact I thought that a couple of the girls featured were really embarrassing representatives of the Burly world - they seemed to be totally consumed with themselves. I would hazard a guess that perhaps they are not in it for either the love of Burlesque or the right emotional reasons.

There appeared to be rather heavy dose of full on stripper antics including skimpy thongs, crotch grinding, poles and actual nudity. This was disappointing for my taste, but then again no one forced me to watch it.

The girl/girl action you noticed Fey, was performed by none other than the 'Porcelain Twinz' - nice girls but their 'interpretation' of burlesque is really not what you and I (and 99% of people here) would call burlesque. They are adult film stars and performers who specialize in twin-fetish (not too surprisingly considering they are twins). They perform a lot with Torture Garden and such and do have Burlesque elements in their shows, and their timing and choreography is really very good but their main focus as was featured on the Ch 5 programme is their more hard core fetish acts.

Needless to say, after watching the 'Burlesque Girls' programme, I much prefer our British Burly traditions much more than the glam/strip emphasis that seems to be the US focus. To me, it seems that the only thing in common is the french term itself and i am even more persuaded to campaign for our own media and press to notice the UK's own glorious history and traditions.

Had my mum been watching 'Burlesque Girls' i would have been mortified.

This programme was shown around six months ago under the name Forty Deuce and was cut differently with the word burlesque mentioned much less. The focus was more on them opening the new bar and the problems with Carolina's immigration, etc and a lot more on the selection process of the new girls. I don't even remember seeing the Dita bit before.

It was on the same kind of time then so i too could have dozed off. If you forget the burlesque side its meant to have, just watching the dancing is very impressive and far more entertaining than the tennis and fottie we've been bombarded with
