Are burlesque shows seasonal...
My background is in promoting, organising and performing in stand-up comedy shows - which is quite seasonal in that the summer months see audience figures drop quite drastically. Presumably one reason is because a lot of people prefer to spend their evenings in the sun rather than a darkened room.
Do burlesque shows suffer from this?

Ahh...but
with burlesque, any time is a good time for a striptease, of course, not many people would head out to a comedy show after 10pm on a summer's evening after having a few but you most definitely would go see a burlesque show after 10pm especially if it is guaranteed that you continue drinking and watching burlesque until at least 1am. What do you reckon?

If you don't mind me asking.how would a burlesque show attract people if a comedy show wouldn't?
They're both performance events, both quite "cool", and both are held in similar venues.
And at many comedy clubs you can drink and dance until 1pm after the show too.

I think that a burlesque show is a tad more interesting because you have comedy, titillation, beauty, sometimes the macabre and, if not only for the costuming but the aura that a burlesque show creates.watching a parade of comedians is okay but watching a true burlesque show feels like you're getting a lot more.
That's just my opinion.

I agree i think Burlesque is more of a variety show and therefore has a wider apeal for audiences. It is also the big fashionable thing right now.
It would interesting to see how things might average out over the next few years as far as Burlesque is concerned.
As for Elvis shows, the summer and Chritsmas time are always really busy. 8)

People like an excuse to dress up and comedy (Stand up) shows tend to be rather casual or dressed down. In contrast Burlesque shows tend to encourage glamour and sex appeal and so there should be no real drop in trend in the Summer. The trend of dressing up is easy to encourage and appeals all year round.
Women can wear their skimpy frocks and men can wear those snazzy shirts and hats that would have been unsuitable in the wet winter.
Many Burlesque club promoters use Summer themes to encourage dress up too.
