I thought it was a pretty poor interview actually. She was lovely and beautiful and with-it, but Mr Ross didn't give her a chance to say much of interest. I was a bit frustrated and wanted to give him a slap.''

yes i think you're right, i watched it, and although it was fantastic to see Dita on there, he didnt seem to let her say very much, or elaborate on the things she said. which of course were all very lovely and articulate and gently softy spoken, *gush gush, sigh sigh* but Johnathan Ross seemed to speak over her quite a bit. still, lovely to see Dita on the telly box! Did anyone go to the Book signing by the way? i thought about going but didnt in the end (over slept well in to early evening! deary me.) but do wish i had gone!

But that's the trouble with our Jonathan, sweet as he is, he always thinks the interview is about him and his thoughts. I don't much mind when the interviewee's a brainless celeb but a real pity when someone as bright, articulate and funny as Dita is on the show.

I found the whole thing very frustrating really. having worked as a "showbiz" TV journalist for more years than I care to think about, I thought the interview was appalling. There was no reference at all to the current Burlesque revival, and no real indication about what the whole thing is about really. OK, the "balcony, no basement" comment was quite funny, but not really that accurate.Overall it was, technically speaking, a poor interview.
Yes, Dita was beautiful and charming, and, yes, lovely frock. BUT, if you were interviewed on, as Jeremy Kyle would have it "National Television" (note caps), wouldn't you rather this illustrious messageboard be discussing how inspiring and talented you are?
Now for the controversial bit. all due respect to Ms von Tease but once it was clear the interview was all a bit of a disappointment really, I wanted her to grab hold of the whole thing by the horns and have something to say, but no. she sat there looking pretty and being charming, and let's face it, that never changed the world now did it?
Bearing in mind some of the intriguing debates I have followed on this board recently about the nature of burlesque (and feminism), I can't help but feel that that's a tragic waste of a platform.
True, intellectual statement isn't the be all and end all, but are we all only really in this for the sequins and the feathers?
Well, are you?

(Rant over. and I always quite liked Mr Ross really)

xxx Liberty

p.s. and Tom Jones' speedos were SO worth it!

I'm afraid I agree with Libertypink. It was a bit of a wasted opportunity really. I think anyone watching who didn't know anything about Burlesque wouldn't be left knowing where to go to find out more or how to get involved in the secene. I was also hoping we would get a performance, (perhaps some sort of homage to Tom Jones' speedos?).

Still, she did look gorgeous.

I saw Dita on the Lorraine Kelly show too, and I think that was Gwendolyne lamour that was sort of acting out the tips Dita gave in her book. (it's like my burlesque and fetish bible, so I know!)
Does anyone know when we can see a live performance with Dita? Doesn't she ever do shows for the public? I'm dying to see!

haveing watched both the mr. Ross interview and a few
others she has done, well to be frank she does'nt ever
really say that much and has to be prompted quite a bit to
get her talking.Lovely lady and all that maybe she is just a
bit shy on chat type show ?! as for mr. Ross well I have
watched some brilliant interviews he's done.it all depends
on the guest and the rapour they have I guess.

When I met her at the book signing you could tell she was mild-mannered and quiet, but really nice. I thought it was great that she was on such a high profile show, and that it must be terrifying in a completely different way from performing if that's what you're used to. Plus these hosts steer the conversation where they want it to go anyway, that's their job after all.
