Ok people two parts to this

1. How do you like to see a man dressed at a Burlesque gig? What look works best for you?

2. Anyone recomend some good internet stores for the men?

For me the dinner suit or top hat and tails is a classic, any loud formal Jacket or posibly the pinstripe suit works for me too. Not to mention a uniform, an admiral, something flashy.

As for sites well.eBay.basically.thats why I'm asking.

OK

GO!

All of the above!

I like uniforms the more severe looking the better in my opinion especially if they have peaked visor caps or sexy side caps.

I also like to see men in holy gear, but that's another story.

For guys, anything that is stylish for the sake of itself is cool - i.e. spats, trilbies, top hats and elegant jewellery, cufflinks with little kinky or cute motifs.

Glasses that suit and a definitive retro hairstyle.

NICE AFTERSHAVE. i can't stress that enough people.

Also, i really think longjohns, vests and sock suspenders are really sexy, but not on show for a burlesque night - unless it's pyjama themed or something.

the main NO GO items:

Trainers, jeans, old t-shirts! If there ever was anything so unflattering on a man it's an old baggy t-shirt. Men's shoulders and arms are central o their sex appeal . If you plan to go out in some baggy spillowsack with holes, you might as well wear a wigwam and be done with it.

These guys specialise in men's wear too - all vintage but they don't do online.

hmmmm

If you like to see men in holy gear, why the hell did you make me throw away my old pair of threadbare grunties?!

Not wanting to appear sexist, but women just do not understand the sentimental value of mens underpants.

There, I said it!

Default Men & Clothes

Hi JP,
personally I think there's nothing better than a man in a sharp suit. Either that or a nice sports coat with an open neck shirt (the louder the shirt the better) and a pair of voluminous trousers.
And don't forget shoes! Get those brogues out (preferably 2tone ones).
If you get in touch with me, I have a huge list of tinternet sites that my husband uses.
Seeing as you're in Bakewell, why don't you get your backside into Sheffield. Langton's antiques on Chesterfield Rd has some fab vintage clothes shops upstairs.
Also, check out The Front Parlour on Sharrow Lane. She's only open Wednesdays and Saturdays but you can pick up great hats, braces, clothes etc at very reasonable prices. It's worth it just to look round the shop.
Hope this helps.

I agree with everything everyone has said with the possible exception of voluminous trousers. Whatever you wear, it has to fit well. I always find it a shame when some one has obviously made an effort only to have it spoiled by a top hat that falls about their ears. White tie and tails for me is the epitome of elegance, perhaps wit hsome kinky cufflinks just for fun! E-bay really has been my saviour in this regard (although it took about six months of searching before a silk top hat came up in my size!) also some of the vintage shops around Covent Garden are pretty good, if a bit expensive.

Speaking of Holy wear, I found an amazing and very sexy cassock with hundreds of buttons up the front but someone outbid me it was avery sad day.

Slicked back hair and a uniform does it for me. A twinkly tooth is a nice added extra

at the last Flash Monkey I was chatting to a guy in a purple and blue latex snakeskin suit. which he had to tell was WITHOUT underwear.

he then preceded to tell me it doesn't keep you cool in summer, or warm in winter. so i'd say that is maybe one to avoid.

p.s. When you got a new rubbery pencil case at school, and sniffed inside, it smelt like that.

well each to their own. as I LOVE the smell of petrol! mmmmmmmm

I'm 6ft 5ins tall, which is why I'll probably never find nice enough clobber to wear to a Burlesque night.
