The soundtrack to the new Bettie movie is put now

Also, from Normal Records there is a series of cds inspired by Bettie Page - Danger Girl, Private Girl and Jungle Girl.

I have all three, and highly recommned Danger Girl especially. However, 'The Big Strip' (track 11) is possibly the most over used, cliched burlesque strip number on the circuit so enjoy it but don't rely on it for an original stage piece.

Danger Girl

If I recall corrrectly, a large part of "Take It Off" is derived from Ann Corio's "How to Strip for your Husband" (I & II) LPs of the 60's. It is a nice collection but I wish they had included Ann's instructions in the liner notes!

A more recent CD is "Tease: The Beat of Burlesque" (on Verve in the US), a compilation of various jazz tunes suitable for classic routines. Nice photo of The Lady Ace on the cover (she helped pick the tunes).

I'd also rcommend "Shim Sham Revue- Music of New Orleans Burlesque Shows of the 30's, 40's & 50's" CD by Ronnie Magri, bandleader/drummer for the (former) Shim Sham Revue in New Orleans. Ronnie had to relocate to NY and is now drumming with the NY Blues Devils (house band for Bonnie Dunn's Le Scandal).

Check out Amazon for some other titles. However, many regular songs can be given a burlesque twist. One of the newer NY performers, Dizzy Swank (debut performance this past February), coupled Dolly Parton's "9 to 5" with the Python's Lumberjack song for a nice bit of boylesque.

the 'Las Vegas Grind' cds are great, but a bit hard to get hold of. sometimes you can get them from amazon or perhaps ebay.
