Default Which is THE BEST club?

Ok..... go!

Do tell. Who/What/Where/When just how good was it?

What did you like and not like about an event?

- I love live music and tipsy people trying to jive, or suddenly expressing a secret desire to be Liza Minnelli. Giving people the opportunity to show off is so important to a good night, I think.

- I hate clubs who showcase mediocrity for the sake of claiming xxxx number of acts or pleasing the Dj's girlfriend etc etc...

What grinds your gears?

Best clubs? Hmmmm - not sure I'm qualified to say if they are the best as I've only been to 5 clubs/places and watched Burlesque.

Two of the clubs/places will go down in history as events I wish I'd never ever been too. 'Nuff said.

In the midde is Appleby Burlesque - a small and intimate club night run by the talented Cherry Fox. The bar is great with plenty of assorted products to eat and drink. The reason for it being in the middle is down to me - I had to leave very early in the night and so only saw 3 and a half acts.

At the top end, and the places I love the most, are The Candy Box and The Cherry Pop Peep Show.

The Candy Box is a great place for live music acts, trying to cater for all tastes although I feel it leans more towards the USA style of Burlesque. This is the place to come to watch the big international stars.

The Cherry Pop Peep Show is a smaller and newer club which has a healthy following. All acts booked, like The Candy Box, are strong acts. To it's advantage the venue isn't as cramped as Candy Boxes home, the Glee. This event seems to have a stronger leaning towards the British style of Burlesque.

And finally off the list all together despite my attending it is my club, Silk Stocking Striptease Show. I can't rate my own show simply because I would find it unethical to do so. All I can say is that every performer did a good job and proved they had something to offer the scene. My club is also the only club to offer newbies stage time in Birmingham - although we balance the newbies with a strong line-up of more established talent.

On a side note: I foud this thread whilst looking for the one about Family Guy: Blue Harvest - I'm happy to report that said episode is on BBC3 tonight after Heroes.

My two favs are Candy Box and High Tease, but I haven’t managed to get down to sample any of the London clubs yet.

Candy Box because of the live music, fun, jokey atmosphere, and the chance to see some of the best international artists. Queuing for hours before hand to get a good seat is a bit of a drag, but well worth it in the end!

I love High Tease for much the same reasons; the opportunity to see really talented performers without having to head to London or the US. The fact that HT can bring talent like Immodesty Balize, Dusty Limits, and Lord Dashwood up to Scotland makes it top in my book!
The other great thing about High Tease is the effort the organisers make to have a full spectrum of burlesque; Classic opulent American striptease, modern comedy and neo-burlesque, and traditional victorian/musc hall inspired performers. I think this provides a comprehensive event that is really well put together.

Dr Sketchy's Glasgow is also probably worth a mention. I was a bit dubious the first time I went, but I was absolutely bowled over by its amazing atmosphere and how incredibly fun it is. The mix of humour, songs, burlesque and drawing is really well brought together and it is a great way to spend a Sunday let me tell you!

I love the Canday Box because they have the whole package just right.
I love Afternoon Tease becase they have the glamour and there is someting naughty about burlesque and cake in the afternoon.
I love the Martini Lounge because of all the styles of acts and the decor makes you feel like you have stepped back in time.
I love the Slipper Room in NY cos its a dive and the crowd are wild.
I love Bethnal Green cos of its faded working mans attitude and the crowd has attitude.
I love the Ruby Slipper cos of the venue and the promoters that run it are so lovely.
I love Slippery Belle becase Belle is amazing and the crowd is fab and Stu takes the best pictures.
I love Cherry Pop Peep show because Lulu is a great promoter and you feel proud to be in that line up.
I love Naught but Fabulious becase if there is a god it would be Jo King.

I was also going to say the ballroom in Brighton that I performed at for Mob but I forget the name great venue, lovely little stage and Kittie, James and Miss Blush really looked after us that night.

I think its the people that promot the night thats what makes it if its done with passion and love and care then it makes for a great night for all.
