Default is there anything that is taboo in burlesque?

im looking at putting together my first routines...and before i go any further i wanted to ask whether anyone has found any subject to be frowned upon or best "left alone" ? as i am a world war two fanatic i have chosen a piece of period german music for a fan dance and had intended to create some swastika pasties for the reveal (Totally tongue in cheek...) is this too much and would i best be steering away or is it simply a case of some audiences will get it/like it and some wont as i have found so far...any guidance would be very much appreciated...thanks in advance. ann.xxx

Well, to be honest, there's going to be at least one audience member who's going to be offended.

But as Kittie will tell you, the meaning of the word burlesque is to send up, satirise or, if we can be crude, take the piss out of.

Personally, if I were going to watch a Nazi routine then I'd want it to be as tasteless as possible. But that's just me.

Take a look at Glory Pearl, she has a great 'nazi' routine.

Slightly related, reminded me of this scene from Cabaret which I always thought was a bit brilliant (dog killing aside)
