Thread: Regarding: Kevin Van Meter

Dear Members,

It has been brought to our attention that a forum member by the name of Kevin Van Meter has been fraudulently claiming association with the New York Burlesque Festival, The Pontani Sisters , and other involved parties.

After receiving several complaints from performers and MoB Members (on both sides of the Atlantic) with regards to his behaviour , we have no choice but to permanently ban this member.

Members should be notified of these experiences and be warned against engaging in any interaction with him.

The complaints have entailed:

• his making false claims to have influence in the booking of acts for the New York Burlesque Festival
• his false claims and implications of personal and familial relations with key personel
• his misleading acts to think they are being booked by the New York Burlesque Festival when in fact they are not
• his (often successful) attempts to engage in email and further procure private telephone numbers of hopeful performers
• his attempts to have such hopeful performers send him increasingly 'risque' photographs of themselves - under the illusion that they are required to do so as part of a submission process for the New York Burlesque Festival etc.

Please also note that this member has already been banned from various official groups and sites pertaining to the New York Burlesque Festival.

I'm so glad you have as he was a complete weirdo who stalked me on facebook and here, luckily i cottoned on quick enough to know he was a weirdo and also kept copy of the weird facebook chat conversation he had with me.
Worryingly, he has printed off a photo of me from here which he told me he kept on his wall- yeuk!!!!
He also paid particular attention to a thread of mine on here which he referenced, where i spoke about being a health professional and burlesque and that not really mixing! He told me my 'secret' was safe with him- didn't realise i had a secret, but it almost seemed like he thought he could use it against me!
He also knew my fiances name via facebook- so i quickly deleted him and changed my name! freaky sad man!

Mimi - God, how creepy! Did you notify your concerns about him to MoB at all? I didn't have any personal interaction with him, I just thought that for a promoter his topics of conversation were a bit odd.

Open question to James et al - if any members have situations like Mimi had with KVM, with any other MoB member, ought we to notify anyone in MoB?

Good question, also if we were contacted about a gig, like KVM did to some people, what is the best way of checking the offer is legit? I know you are taking a risk with anything you do. You wouldn't want to put a thread on here because that might offend the person, but you don't want to be sending out information to complete strangers.
Who would be the best person to PM if anyone?

I can relate to this, sorry if I appear secretive, but this incident does spook me. I too, am in the health service, of which, in the past, I have made no secret, but it is a worry.

Yup me too - I also denied his Facebook request for the very same reason. I am always very careful who I add to Facebook anyway and even if I'm aware of who someone is, I will deny them if I am in any way suspicious of them...
