ideas needed; Worldwide burlesque destinations..
hello all,
righty basically i need some help with ideas here....im entering one of the awards that we have the chance of winning at our degree show, the sponsor is by BA and the prize is a return ticket to anywhere in north america or europe *but* we have to write a statement explaining where we want to go and why, and how it is relevant to our art practice and will help us to further our practice.
sooooo as my work is about burlesque and its place in "fine art" ad performance art i need a fab destination with big burlesque -ness type things going on....all ideas appreciated
vix

How about America? Miss Exotic World, Teaseorama, The New York Burlesque Festival, The slipper Room.

Oh you lucky lucky lady. I would try New York or Las Vegas, you could learn a lot from both places.

There is a very strong scene in Europe too, I recommend, Norway (specifically Oslo which has some fantastic events and a great scene), Rome and Berlin and there's no ignoring Paris or Amsterdam, though you'd probably be keen on somewhere a little more exotic.
Good luck with it all & let us know how you get on!

as for other replies...i was thinking miss exotic world as its a huge event so would give the statement something to focus on, but NY is a no no, i really dont like the place sadly.

Oh without a doubt you've got to Las Vegas, Los Angeles and go to Helendale, California and see Dixie Evans and the Burlesque Hall of Fame. From everything I've ever heard about Dixie she sounds an amazing and very welcoming lady for anyone who wants to learn more about some of the legends of burlesque .
You should contact Anna Fur Laxis and she might be able to put you in touch with some of the great burlesque photographers over there - Chris Beyond in particular. And I'm sure some of the LA burlesquers would meet you. I've always wanted to go over and meet Lili Von Schtupp , and find out if she's as larger than life as she sounds on her burlesque podcasts.
And there's Azul Sinned (the latter has done some absolutely stunning photos of LA burlesque performers for the LA Burlesque charity calendar - see here and I think has just finished shooting for the next one).
The locations and light around the area would be fantastic to go and photograph!
And just think of the photos you'd have forever from a trip to Vegas! The Russian Doll Lass - like Shrek's onion, but with sequins...

San Francisco! So many of the great creative oddball people and things I know about are based there.
