Thread: Recycle your laddered fishnets and stockings and save the world..!

Sort of.
But you know how they get laddered easily and just pile up and you save them up and think you'll do something with them and instead you just end up with a giant collection of laddered and snagged fishnets and tights and one stocking good stocking...?!
Well read this:

524,000 women die from complications of pregnancy and childbirth each year and of these deaths, 99% occur in impoverished, developing countries. For every woman who dies, another 40 or 50 suffer severe injuries and complications.

We are collecting used (and washed) tights to send to the Addis Ababa Fistula Hospital in Ethiopia. The tights will be used to hold dressings in place when women suffer from childbirth injuries in particular when they suffer the Fistula condition. It can be very hard to hold these dressings in place and tights just happen to be the perfect solution. Send to

What a great cause. I ladder tights/stockings the second I put them on so will be able to send in a huge collection.

Wow, thats such an amzing idea!!! i'll definitely be doing this, sorted out a bag of old tights etc a month or two ago

Thanks so much for telling us about this :hug: it means that things we would have ordinarily thrown away will be helping people! (although mine usually go to charity or sometimes get made into hairbands :lol: )

ive got lots of hosiery as i wear them most days in my boutique, what a great idea i will be sending my hosiery tomorrow and making sure all my friends do the same x x

I had no idea about this thanks Wild Card Kitty for drawing attention to it. Plus it's in Brum, so now I have to send in things purely to represent lol.

My tights tend to last a while and then little sister gets her hands on them.

I also like the fact (sorry if this seems bad taste) that I have bright pink/purple fishnets etc. and they'll be using all these crazy colours and patterns to hold dressings on. What clever people women, are accessorising and being practical all at the same time.

I'll forward this on in a bulletin on myspace I think.

Probably between everyone on MoB, and the sheer (pardon the pun) amount of hosiery we all go through, we could put an end to this shortage. I also have an array of colours to send!

This makes me feel far less bitter about the gorgous tights I just 'holed' on their first wear from accessorise. They weren't even thin!! There is a stocking heaven after all!! :genius:

i actually own a huge bag full of tehm taht is stopping me close my wardrobe door!
ill be sending tehm off in a damn jiffy!
och thats sucha good idea, they are going to have a stock pile coming from us lot lol x
