Is there still a place in burlesque for the Can-can?
Can you Can-can-can, shouts Jim Broadbent in Moulin Rouge. (sorry I can't remember the name of Jim's character,)
Well can you Can-can? Is this sexy dance , that so shocked the polite society of the late 19th century slipping into oblivion?
I only ever see it as a finale to a big production, if ever I see it at all. In defence of Can-caneurs everywhere, I have to say it's an absolute killer to dance . High speed, gymnastic and in those infamous heels. But I love it!
So do you. male or female, still enjoy the spectacle that is the Can-can?
Or have you too noticed that it's no longer performed anymore, unless a film or show comes along and gives it a mini revival? Anyone else on the forum a Can-can dancer?
Well let me ask you this. When was the last time you saw the Can-can in all it's sexy sassy splendour?
Sadly the only good can can these days is this Coca-Cola Can-can costume sculpture. Made from Coca-Cola cancans of course!

I know of just three links to good Can-cans, but if you know of any, then post it/them.
And just to get your grey cells working, other than Jacques Offenbachs famous finale to Orpheus in the Underworld, what other scores make a good Can-can?WARNINGWarning: This is an Old Thread

Rhumba
Cha-Cha-Cha
Paso-Doble
Samba
Argentine Tango.
And I still have to rehearse the Can-can.

Don't lose the topic of this thread. I'm keen to know what people feel about the Can-can.

I too am in London, visiting my father, have been rehearsing the Can-can all evening. I had hoped to be at Katie's bash too, but to get round the M25, on a friday afternoon, doesn't leave much time for anything.
I missed Hurly Burly when they were in Bournemouth, and again this evening. Rats!

Gypsy and Viva do a fantastic cancan, as mentioned previously. It's fast, professional and riotously funny and I've seen it many times, I love it!
They also have a troupe of cancan girlies in Edinburgh I believe, who perform quite regularly up here, but I think that tends to be at the corporate shows. At burly shows, I've only ever seen Gypsy and Viva, and Can Booty Can (the latter was a couple of years ago, but they were ace!)
Me, I'm not fit / bendy / stretchy enough for cancan!

Yup we do indeed- 'French Fling', and I absolutely love performing it! I'm too bad with technology to work out how to post the pics though!
Out of all the performances we do, I think the cancan is by far the most exciting and the one that really gets the crowd going.
The interaction with the audience is totally different, I feel much cheekier, and the audience are always speechless when we jump into splits (luckily our troupe is made up of gymnasts so we're well used to the tumbles and high kicks!)
