Fan storage and transportation
Hi there,
I've just received my first pair of 4ft ostrich feather fans, and realised how fragile the feathers are. Can anyone give me some ideas as to the best way to store them at home and transport them? They arrived in a postal tube which has bent two of the feathers (which will need to be replaced) so that isn't really an option.

i used to carry mine in wrapping paper bags with the little handles but then millie dollar told me to use plastic poster/art protection tubes... you know the ones with straps.
you can get expandable ones too... mine was only £9.99 from blackwells
and i reckon you look well cool with a burlesque bazooka on your back!

I use my archery quiver - the sturdy container that holds the arrows so they don't get damaged...works just the same for fans

I've seen pillow cases used but I think there's potential for squash damage.
If not a bazooka go for a bow I say!

What about fixed fans? I've just made myself a pair and had to fix them open. They're about a metre wide and I have no idea how to transport or even store them!

you could always take them to a dance shop and see if they fit in a tutu bag, big circular bag with a zip on the edge. They can be reinforced with board to protect your fans??
now if only i could find a case for my 3ftx2ft glass jar i'd be so happy!

Not knowing any local dance shops I used the old faithful eBay instead and found a nice cheap tutu bag which my fans will fit into with plenty of room. It's a nice stylish red satin one too, so a bit glam ^_^ I shall let you know if it's a disaster but it should work - thanks for the suggestion Amelie!
