    This'll make you feel better:

Once, many years ago - well, about four - I was in the park in Preston with three male friends. It was a nice sunny day so I was wearing a skirt and a little strappy top. I never tie my hair up usually so it was flowing long and loose almost to my waist. We were walking along - I may have even been skipping - and we crossed paths with a gaggle of fourteen year old girls who had managed to lift a bottle of Archers spritzers from one of their mothers and were doing that little girl showing off thing of having a quick swig and then staggering around dizzily claiming to be drunk. When they went past us, one of them pointed straight at me and screeched "I thought you were a bloke!"

Luckily my friends were too confused to laugh ...

Minty I know for a fact you don't look older than you are, but if your hair colour is getting you down is there any way you can change it?

It wasn't actually Avenham Park no, that's much prettier but it was a bit too far away from my house. It was Moor Park which was much closer!

Plungy? Student street? Wow, I know it well - and Blackpool road rings a bell too ... I lived in student halls for a year, then Havelock Street (the posh row of houses opposite the church with the scary red cross - great for finding your way home after a drunken night!) and then St Mark's Road in the opposite direction

yup, then lived in Avenham, Bushell Place - those big Victorian places surrounding the park for my last year. OOOOOh, the scary cross, I used to see that from my window when I was in halls :-)

ahh, small world!! Is that where you went to Uni then??!

Sorry for highjacking your thread Minty, I don't think you look like a grandma at all!!!

Ah yes, many a poor student on their first night in halls was terrified to see the demonic floating red cross in the sky ...

I did go to uni there yes, Central Lancs has a pretty darn good Astrophysics department - must be all that Jeremiah Horrocks history ... I live in Whitendale Halls for the first year, the best halls in my opinion, but I got a horrible view into Greenback building rather than the courtyard. Wouldn't have minded so much had the Business students I lived with not told me they could see straight into my window from outside their lecture theatre - I soon learned to keep my curtains closed!
