Do you respond to your stage name?
im talking about outside the burlesque world. even though only a few people know me as susie i have found myself responding to it more and more. if someone shouts "susie" or sue or anything like that i automatically turn around. my real name sounds nothing like susie and i havent been doing burlesque for very long so its not like its what im constantly being called. anyone else have the same thing?
or maybe ive just taken to the name really well? xWARNINGWarning: This is an Old Thread

I still struggle to answer to my stage name & even at shows I still haven't got out of the habit of introducing myself by my vanilla name, doh!

I find that in general that whenever interacting with the scene it's stage names all the way, I often advise newcomers onto the scene to pick a name that they are comfortable with being refered to on a daily basis, some performers I know have actually changed their name by deed poll to their stage name, because I suppose they are happier being called by that name, after all we didn't get much say in the one our parents gave us.
In a vast majority of cases I have no idea what the real names are of the performers I deal with. I even refer to my wife by her stage name whenever we are at a show, because people in that enviroment will just get confused if I call her by her real name. My name is actually the name of my company, it just so happens my name is Pete and I am on the slim side. I've got use to people refering to me as Skinny, which I have to say sounded pretty odd at first, but I still think it's weird when some people introduce me by the full company name! What's that all about? e.g. "Hi Jane, I like you to meet Mr Skinny Pete Promotions" I'm thinking, why did you add "Promotions" to that introduction? Now I don't feel like a person, but a walking, talking corporation!Last edited by Skinny Pete; 07-25-2010 at 10:13 AM. Reason: misspelt word

i've been Dusty Limits for so long i've actually failed to respond to my real name on more than one occasion. it's just a force of habit thing. it's also a question of to what degree your stage persona spills over into your day to day life. a lot of performers are totally different in person to what you see on stage. sadly, for me, the two seem to have blurred into one....

Yeah, I respond to mine. Although I do realise that calling myself "Twiggy" is quite a stretch of the imagination as I'm a little on the curvey side at the moment!
Obviously I chose it because It rhymes with Ziggy, not because I'm in any way Twig-like! lol x

I find I respond more to my stage name than my real name. "Kiki" stands out and is easier to hear over the background noise of a club or busy street.
A few months back my mum started calling me Kiki. That was ... odd.
