Bully agents
Ok long story but I will try and make it short.
Last year my dance partner and myself were planning a huge bulesque show, the biggest seen in our area. We had hired a prestigeous performer and everything was going well, untill one day we got an email from a certain agent telling us not to use the performer. She said many things that were unprofessional but we decided our dealings with the performer had been nothing but professional so decided to go ahead. I told the agent we didn't want to get involved in any personal stuff between herself and the performer.
Anyway since then the agent has pretty much blacklisted us. My dance partner used to write for the agent and all of sudden her work was not being published, and she has defriended us on facebook (sounds silly I know). And she has contacted other performers in our area and told them not to come to our show!
What i'm really worried about is that this agent is pretty influential but she uses her power for bad. She seems like a bully and I will not be bullied. I'm just worried she will dish out the same treatment to us as she has the other performer and start bad mouthing us, even though we've done nothing other than not kiss her arse.
Has anyone else had issues with agents like this?WARNINGWarning: This is an Old Thread

Did the agent give you any specific reason why you weren't to use her?
If the agent acts like that then it won't just be you that they do it to and in turn professionals could well shy away from them as well.
It's probably doing the agent more harm than good taking the stance they have.
Don't waste energy on bitter people. It's their loss, be thankful they've pushed you to a better opportunity, although it hasn't made itself obvious yet.Chris Giles Photography | Blog | Facebook | Flickr
Always be honest with your clients, if you aren't they'll have false expectations of you and there's nothing worse for business than a client who's been sold some magic beans. Even more so when all they wanted was their picture taken.

Beatrix - Don't know if yo have pm'd me yet but is so nothing has come through.

G3L - No we were not given a reason just that she would never use her when in fact she did numerous times! I hope people do realise how unprofessional she is, but she just seems to have so much power. I think people may be scared of her!

Maybe they want all the power and took exception to you using her?
Who knows, like I say, their loss

Hi hun - are you sure she actually has any power at all, or is she just acting like she does and intimidating people with something that doesn't actually exist?

I ask because I've discovered that the latter is more often the case with people like this and that once you stand up to them publicly their hold over other people tends to evaporate.

This agent sound so unprofessional I'm sure anyone she's bad mouthing you to will see through it all. Personally whenever I hear anything negative said about anyone I take it with a pinch of salt, I like to form my own opinions and I'm quite positive I'm not the only one. Often people spreading bad words about anyone end up the biggest loser.

It's hard to build a good name, but easy to destroy it.
Let her throw her toys out of the pram. It won't get her anywhere.Chris Giles Photography | Blog | Facebook | Flickr
