Thread: Compering/hosting...

Evening!
Thanks everyone for your thoughts/comments. Dusty - I particularly enjoyed the YouTube clip (nice one James) - full of charm and wit! My areas of weakness are dealing with hecklers and pinging out one liners. I am not a comedian and I hesitate about pursuing this idea on that basis. You have to be able to make people laugh to get the crowd engage. However, I am thinking my charm and stage presence (she says trying to convince herself) will assist in that department! I positively glow at the idea of using bucket loads of glamour and a persona though...
Again, not wishing to tread on anyone's toes but I am thinking it would worth going to see shows to get an idea of compering/hosting. In terms of contacting promoters...I am thinking MoB by searching through the forum?

yes do come down to Boom Boom Club if you can. it's just near Liverpool St station.
i shouldn't worry hugely about hecklers or pinging one-liners. there is very little of a heckling culture in burlesque and cabaret - it's much more of a drunken boysy thing that you get at stand-up gigs.
there are a few basic principles i'd be happy to pass on to you but generally, compering is something you can only learn on the job. experience is everything!

Morning!
Thanks everyone (especially Mister Black and Dusty) for your thoughts and insight. Dusty - that is an offer that I will not turn down (I will PM you in due course)! I agree that doing a bit of research and experience will help immensely. As Easter is fast approaching (is it here already..was not Xmas the other day????), I think a visit to some clubs might be in order

Hi Amba,
If you can get yourself to High Tease in Brighton on Sat 27th, you will be able to see Dusty at his best and chat to him after the show.
You'll have to be quick though as the show is already 3/4 sold out.
