Anyone know special effects?
If anyone can advise me on a matter concerning stage and theatrical special effects, specifically with regard to portable smoke machines, could they please PM me? I could do with a little help ^_^

Beulah Bell uses a portable smoke machine for her Hookah Caterpiller act. It looks great and was quite simple to use. Other than that, I can't help.

Can I hijack this thread and also ask if anyone knows of a very small smoke machine that can be hidden in a costume?

Eris, Mr Ripples says you can get little smoke machines that would be small enought to hide in a costume. They are used for radio controlled boats etc to simulate steam from funnels. xxx

Take a look here Fleur, this is the kind of thing. Smoke and Steam Generators from Cornwall Model Boats
You can get different power ones. Not sure what you need it for, but it could be doable xxRaspberry Ripples - Your just desserts!

Be aware that the Graupner units whilst very effective work by heating their fuel to pretty high temps (in excess of 100C) in order to give off smoke, in addition the units must be kept upright to prevent what is in effect boiling oil from spilling out, I'm not sure I'd want to build such a unit into a costume
Pyrotechnics | Special Effects | Manufacturers Le Maitre produce pyrotechnics for use on stage and smoke machines etc, you can buy or rent from them, or there are various stage suppliers arround teh country who can supply simiilar or identical kit
It's actually much easier and a lot safer to produce flame than it is to produce smoke, alternatively it's possible to get han held air cannon to lauch confetti, streamers, glitter etc.
