Political Burlesque?
Hi - I'm hoping you can all help! I am looking for recommendations for burlesque /cabaret acts that are political and/or strongly satirical in some way. I am running a 'Sex and Politics' cabaret event on 22nd May in Sheffield, and have Honey Wilde and some other acts booked, but have lost an act due to availability and want to make sure I don't miss out booking something perfect because I don't know it's out there!
I can think of some great amazing male singers who'd fit the bill (e.g. Frank Sinatzi) but already have a male and female singer booked. I want to avoid anything too closely linked to feminism as I have Audacity Chutzpah covering this angle later in the year, and obviously anything simply about 'sex' without a pertinent comment attached won't really work... I'm open to all suggestions, having looked at communist magicians and a whole range of ideas. Boylesque would suit the bill well, but I mainly want something clever, witty and that's makes a statement.
I can't promise to follow every line of enquiry/respond to everyone personally, but I'll try my best! We are obviously working within a budget, but always include travel and accommodation in addition to fees.
Apologies to MOB if this is in the wrong section - feel free to move if nec!WARNINGWarning: This is an Old Thread

Ah dang I'm halfway across the world from you!
I'd say look at performance art circles, and check in with local feminist, queer, activist, and punk/DIY groups. They can probably recommend some folk. I think you'll find that there will be some great acts that don't call themselves burlesque necessarily but totally fit the bill.Tiara the Merch Girl - Entertaining your fans, making your stage life easier!
