hmm interesting wherever there is a group of women a large propoortion will have it, which is why we decided to do a little sposnorship of the LBF this year. The thyroid organisation is actually mine I set it up in feb 06 after i had taken several yearsto get diagnosed and realsied how many people were either undiagnosed or undermedicated.

It was listed as the 3rd most fatal illness in the western world in 2003, after heart disease which it causes, and cancer which it has a component of, but because it is perceived as a female problem and fat ones at that isn't taken seriously as it isn't sexy and any celebs that have it don't shout about it. The president of teh British Thyroid fountation actually said on record at a GMC hearing against a doctor who was getting folks well, that they won't advise reducing the guidelines in line with other countries so that more folks get well because we get free presciptions so woudl cost the NHS too much money. I added up and it cost the country about 80K not to diagnose me for 3 years (I would have been treated straight away in teh US with my test results) which is just scandalous

If anyone does want to do any fundraising at any other time for us under the 'knickers to thyroid disease' tagline then just lmk, teh middle of october is thyroid awareness week and we are aiming to continue raising teh profile as it is appalling the way we are treated as hypochondriacs . I'm trying to get a lingerie collection together to raise funds as well to launch at the show
