Fly with the greatest of ease? Hahahahahahahahahahah.........!

Oh my goodness - I did a short course in trapeze with a lovely North East collective called Hang the other year and my lord, nothing prepared me for how hard it was going to be!

I turned up with the misguided notion that it was going to feel a bit like hanging upside down off the apparatus bars during school PE lessons but I hadn't accounted for the fact that I've grown a butt since then and getting that above my head whilst relying on my wasted arm muscles was more of a challenge than I bargained for. Weebles wobble but they don't fall down for a reason - they are bottom heavy. Me on the trapeze is like an inverted Weeble. Not quite as graceful as I had hoped. Also - stupid as it sounds - I had been carried away with the thought of being all beautiful and artistic and completely forgot that I'm not really fond of heights. Another thing is that no-one warns you about the pain and the sore black bruises that you get behind your knees.

Having said all of that, if I had some spare pennies at the moment I'd sign up for another course in a flash. It's great fun! Seriously, if you get the chance, go for it.

Silks on the other hand (think of the old dancing BBC1 channel idents with the pretty gymnastic people doing impressive acrobatic stuff suspended from lengths of red fabric) are one of the most evil torture methods known to women. If you get the chance then run. Run for the hills! Your shoulders will never be the same again!
