The Ministry of Burlesque are the UK’s premier organisation for burlesque theatre. Formed in 2002 by ‘creative psychologist’ Kirsty Allan, MoB have led the vanguard of the resurgence and continue to ‘raise the barre’ of professional production, performance and education.
Born out of a passion for meaningful self-expression and wellbeing, MoB was created to help nurture and establish a happy and productive genre for a new century of enthusiasts. As one of the pioneering organisations in the UK for modern burlesque, MoB have been advocating the genre’s socio-political legacy and contemporary scene since 2002 with many ‘firsts’ and accolades in their own history: National sell-out theatre tours with ‘Best Show’ awards, sell out success and 5 star acclaim at the Edinburgh Fringe, appearances at London Fashion Week and international recognition. They brought burlesque back to the oldest surviving intact Victorian Music Hall (the Britannia Panopticon) and were the first British judges to sit on the panel for the Burlesque Hall of Fame (Miss Exotic World) contest in Las Vegas (2007).
